Cristel Reyes Suarez

Cristel is a research assistant in the Soundtag lab, a member of the Cetaceans and Bioacoustics Research group at the University of La Laguna (Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain)  and an Mphil student at St. Andrews University. She has a degree in Marine Biology from the University of La Laguna (Tenerife, Canary Islands) and years of experience in the field work.

In the Soundtag lab I work as a research assistant managing the DTAG database as well as the “Sound & Movement” and “Marine Bioacoustics” webpages.

The rest of the time, my brain is of an Mphil student working on the “Abundance, population dynamics and site fidelity of the populations of Blainville’s and Cuvier’s beaked whales off El Hierro (Canary islands)” under the supervision of Proff. Phil Hammond and Dr. Natacha Aguilar.  Beaked whales are poorly known animals and highly sensitive to anthropogenic noise. More research is needed to establish the appropriate conservation management  of their populations.
